Mangalagiri: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday expressed her satisfaction over growing participation of women in the medical profession and called for focus on inclusive healthcare to make India a healthy, prosperous and developed nation.

She addressed the first convocation of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Man-galagiri. The institute with 125 seats was set up in Andhra Pradesh as part of AP Bifurcation Act.

The foundation stone for AIIMS was laid in 2015. The first batch of students were inducted on August 30, 2018,

The President, on arrival at Gannavaram Airport, was accorded a rousing reception. Among others, Governor S Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav, AP Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh and others were present. AIIMS Director Madhabananda Kar welcomed.

After presenting 49 medical degrees and four gold medals to those who passed out from the AIIMS-Mangalagiri, the President said along with the government, it was also the responsibility of the society to see to it that none is left out of medical services due to financial factors or other reasons and opined that India has transformed into a hub for holistic health and affordable medical tourism.

She said India is becoming a truly developed country due to larger participation of women in the medical profession and pointed out that two-third of students who received degrees at the first convocation at Mangalagiri were women.

Exhorting the young doctors to work with service attitude, she said all of them wedded to the noble profession should also have learning and research orientation as the medical science is de-veloping very fast.

The President said all over the world, Indian doctors have occupied prime positions because of their dedication and knowledge and commitment to serve the needy.

Dr Murmu said healthcare should not be denied to anyone on the grounds of financial position and narrated how the Government of India was committed to rendering health care to all. She said the Ayushman Bharat Insurance Scheme, a flagship programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been extended to all those above 70 years irrespective of their financial position.
